Two taken in custody following Newport News robbery

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police have taken two people in custody in connection with the robbery of the Corner Mart in the 4900 block of Jefferson Avenue, Saturday evening.

Police say the robbery happened around 7:14 p.m. One suspect went into the store, pulled a gun on the clerk and demanded money. After receiving the money, the suspect left the area on foot. According to police the suspect then got into a vehicle several blocks away from the scene.

A witness at the scene called police and provided information about the robbery and the suspect’s whereabouts.

When police arrived to the scene they and found the suspect’s vehicle.

Police then took the suspect and the driver into custody. No charges have been filed at this time.
