NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Construction crews will begin the second of three segments in the project to widen Interstate 64 in Newport News, James City County and York County.
The second phase is a $138.8-million project that will add a lane and shoulder in each direction for 7 miles.
This stretch goes from about a mile near the Humelsine Parkway and where segment one ends near Route 238 / Yorktown Road.
VDOT says one lane will be open in each direction at all times during construction.
Entrance and exit ramps from I-64 to Route 199 (exit 242A) will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27. VDOT says traffic will be detoured during the closure using interchange loop ramps.
The initial second phase work will include shoulder strengthening on the eastbound side. Construction is set to begin Wednesday, Oct. 27.
