Hurricane Matthew caused $2.6 million in damage in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Preliminary estimates suggest that Hurricane Matthew caused $2.6 million worth of damage in Portsmouth.

City officials say initial assessments reported to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management put total infrastructure damage at $655,753.

There were also about 360 private properties that suffered storm damage, with a rough estimate of $2,026,469 in structural damages.
