NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The DEA, FBI and Newport News police spent much of Thursday searching a business in Newport News.

10 On Your Side’s Jason Marks confirmed they were there serving a search warrant. WAVY-TV crews on the scene saw multiple people in handcuffs and a heavy police presence, all day long. Officials could also be seen carrying large bags of cash from the search area. Agents removed several vehicles from the garage.

The FBI tells WAVY.com it is part of a federal operation. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is the lead investigating agency.

“When I came back out the door to go to the store, we were standing there looking. They told everybody to get out back in the house, so we followed their command and went back in the house,” neighbor Lennis McNair Jr. told 10 On Your Side.

Latricia White said she was styling a client’s hair when she saw investigators descend on the area.

White said she was thinking, “Duck down, we need to get low, and something is going on out here and it’s really serious.”

She said agents had focused their search on an auto repair shop.

“I seen cars come in and seen cars go, but they were definitely working on some of the cars,” she said.

Investigators have released few details. It is not clear if anyone has been charged.
