Bayside grad Mizzell might be key to UVA’s offense

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WAVY) – They don’t call him “Smoke” for nothing. Taquan Mizzell may not be on the tear he was last season, when he set the ACC record for receptions by a running back, but the University of Virginia senior is still a threat to take it the distance any time he touches the ball.

The graduate of Bayside High School in Virginia Beach is averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and has reached the endzone three times this season. That’s not counting the 53-yard touchdown reception he hauled in against Central Michigan a few weeks ago, when he broke about five tackles on his way to pay dirt.

Mizzell is now living up to the nickname he earned as a Bayside Dolphin, and might just need to see the ball more if UVA wishes to be more consistent on that side of the ball.

The Cavaliers play host to North Carolina on Saturday, 3:00 pm at Scott Stadium.
