HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — One person was killed, and two others were injured, in a triple shooting in Hampton Wednesday night.

The shooting happened in the first block of Mariners Cove, at the Hampton Harbor Apartments. The complex is located near Hampton University, but is off campus. Police were called to the scene shortly after 9:40 p.m.

“Coming from Richmond, I never thought, coming to Hampton, I’d be ducking and weaving trying to get to class,” student Craig Mcelroy Wednesday night.

Police on Thursday said they had all individuals involved identified and that no suspects were being sought.

20-year-old Kevin Neal was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims were transported to the hospital with injuries that are now considered not life-threatening.

“It’s just really sad because that could have been a friend or a brother,” HU freshman Carrington Peterson said. “You know it’s someone’s son that was shot. So, a mother and a father just lost their child.”

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and was not an active shooter situation.

Hampton University officials on Thursday released a short statement on the shooting, stating that no student was involved.

“It’s sad. It was unexpected,” said Malcolm Hartwell, a student at Hampton University. “It’s probably never going to happen again, especially now you see all the police out there. It’s definitely going to get tightened.”

This was the second shooting in Hampton on Wednesday. Earlier in the evening, a person was shot on Celey Street. That victim was expected to recover.
