Sports reporter, Salem High officials come together after misunderstanding

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A local sports reporter who said he was kicked out of a high school football game sat down with school officials and resolved the situation.

Jamaar Hawkins, a sports reporter for Recruit757, told 10 On Your Side that the student activities coordinator for Salem High School kicked him out of the football game and told him he couldn’t ever come back.

On Monday, Hawkins met with the principal of Salem High and an office staff member. As part of that conversation, the principal welcomed Hawkins at games during various sport seasons. According to the division, Hawkins was never banned from covering future events at Salem High School.

Hawkins tells WAVY News this has been a learning experience for all parties involved and a matter that he is happy to move on from.
