Police arrest suspect in North King Street shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of North King Street on Tuesday night.

Dispatchers received a call at 8:36 p.m. in the area of Old Fox Hill Road and North King Street. Officers responded and found a gunshot victim with non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that the victim and 35-year-old Michael Caines Griffith, who knew each other, were at a residence when a physical altercation ensued and the victim fled the home.  The victim returned a short time later and began vandalizing the residence. Griffith fired multiple shots through the door from inside the home, striking the victim one time.  This incident appears to be narcotics related.

Griffith was later arrested in connection to this incident. He was charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding, one count of Use of a firearm in commission of a felony, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of possession of a firearm while possessing cocaine, and one count of possession of marijuana. He remains in custody at the Hampton City Jail.
