WAVES, N.C. (WAVY) — The body a 17-year-old boy who was pulled into the ocean off of Cape Hatteras National Seashore was found Sunday night near Avon Fishing Pier.

Park officials say a 16 and 17-year-old boy were pulled into the water four days ago. The 16-year-old was able to return to the beach and was taken to the hospital.

Officials say crews from the National Park Service, Dare County Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to search for the 17-year-old.

A visitor around 9:50 p.m. Sunday reported finding the boy’s body 20 yards near the Avon Fishing Pier.

Outer Banks Group Superintendent David Hallac said, “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this most difficult time.”
