NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Hillary Clinton now leads Donald Trump by 15 points, according to findings released Sunday by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Public Policy.
Prior to the second debate and the release of tapes recording Trump’s lewd comments about women, Clinton held the lead by a narrower margin, with 42 percent to Trump’s 35.
The October 16 summary shows the race is now at 44-29, with Clinton gaining just two points, but Trump losing six. Significantly for Hampton Roads, Clinton leads among military families for the first time, 38-32 percent, according to the findings.
The Democratic presidential nominee also leads among men for the first time by five points, and has advanced to a 55 point lead in northern Virginia.
In southern parts of Virginia, however, Trump gained one point. The Republican presidential candidate now holds 48 points in that region.
