Damage from Chesapeake condo fire displaces 6

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Six people were displaced from two condominiums damaged after a fire in Chesapeake early Thursday morning.

Crews were called to the 2400 block of Leytonstone Drive, in the Western Branch area, at 2:05 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene eight minutes later to find smoke coming a two-story condo. The fire was contained to the kitchen area of one of the condos, but smoke damage spread throughout the residence. The fire was marked under control at 3:05 a.m.

The cause of the fire appears to be unattended cooking. One person was displaced.

Another condo attached to the one that caught fire suffered water damage, and a family of five who lived there will be displaced.

All of those displaced have made arrangements for somewhere to stay.

No one was injured.
