Police investigating stabbing on Marshall Ave. in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) —  Police are investigating a stabbing Tuesday night in Newport News.

Dispatchers received a call about the incident at 10:45 p.m. and responded to the 3600 block of Marshall Avenue, according to Newport News police spokesman Brandon Maynard.

Officers arrived on scene to find a man on the floor of a vacant resident with multiple wounds — one to his abdomen, one near his buttocks and one on his wrist.

Police were originally dispatched to the scene for the report of a shooting, but determined it was a stabbing investigation when they arrived on scene.

The victim is expected to recover, according to police spokesman Lou Thurston.
