Firefighters respond to two-alarm fire at Suffolk assisted living home

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at the Tabernacle Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Suffolk Tuesday evening.

Dispatchers received a call about the fire at 7:42 p.m. Crews arrived to the 2500 block of East Washington Street at 7:48 p.m. to find light smoke showing from a storage room. The building’s sprinkler system had been turned on. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which was confined to the storage room.

Residents were already beginning to get out of the building when firefighters arrived on scene. Crews searched the building room to room and helped two other residents evacuate.

All 53 residents and two staff members were accounted for and no one was injured. No one was displaced, either.
