Man with gunshot wound arrives at hospital overnight

Portsmouth police to get body cameras

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man ended up in the hospital overnight after he was shot in Portsmouth.

At about 2:41 p.m. Monday, someone called 911 about a shooting in the 1500 block of LaSalle Avenue, between Elm Avenue and Effingham Street.

Police say before medics and officers arrived to the scene, family members took the man to Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

Medics took the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to undergo surgery for his injuries. He remains in critical condition.

Police have not said if they have identified a suspect or suspects in the shooting.
