Two die in submerged vehicle in NC as Hurricane Matthew impacts state

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Officials with Bladen County Emergency Services have identified two men who died in a submerged vehicle in Clarkton Saturday.

According to Matt Hardee with the State Highway Patrol, Shawn Dell Kemp, 44, and Juwan Rolando McCoy, 22, both of the Clarkton area, died when their vehicle was overtaken by flooding waters when a huge section of Rosindale Road washed away at around 12:30 p.m. They were both passengers in the vehicle.

The driver managed to escape the vehicle.

A large wrecker was called to pull the car from the water.
