New Jersey man dies after getting caught in rip current off Corolla

COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) — A 37-year-old man died Monday after being caught in a rip current off the Pine Island section of Corolla.

The man was identified as Donald G. Davis, Jr. of Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Emergency crews were called to Currituck Outer Banks Mile Post 2 around 4:45 p.m. Davis was unconscious after he was pulled from the water by Corolla Beach Rescue and a good Samaritan who tried to help him as he was caught in the current.

First responders managed to restore Davis’ pulse. He was flown by Dare Medflight to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he passed away that evening.
