Black Lives Matter group marching for debut of ‘The Birth of a Nation’

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Members of Black Lives Matter 757 say they plan on marching tonight for the debut of the new movie “The Birth of a Nation.”

The group is planning to meet at City Center at Oyster Point and walk to Paragon City Center 12 movie theater at 6 p.m. The event was announced in a Facebook Live Thursday night on the group’s page.

According to the movie’s official website, the story centers on literate slave and preacher Nat Turner, who orchestrates uprisings after he witnesses countless atrocities.

Members of the group say they are planning a celebration after the movie.
