Section of Turnpike Road to close for one year

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – If you live off of or drive along Turnpike Road, you may be impacted by an upcoming road closure.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Turnpike Road from the intersection of Dixie Avenue to Frederick Boulevard beginning Monday, October 17 at 7 a.m. Traffic will be detoured at Mascott Street then back onto Turnpike.

The closure is expected to last at least one year, while crews perform utility work for a new roadway.

VDOT says lane shifts and limited lane closures will also affect travel moving northbound and southbound on Frederick Boulevard. The lane closures will occur during Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

This closure is part of the Turnpike Road Reconstruction Project, scheduled for completion in May 2018.
