Navy sets Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness 4 in Hampton Roads ahead of Matthew

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Navy Mid-Atlantic has ordered all installations in the Hampton Roads to set Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness Four as Hurricane Matthew threatens hit the area.

The order means that destructive winds of greater than 50 knots associated with a tropical system are expected within the next 72 hours.

The Navy says preparations for the conditions will include securing hazards throughout the installations and removing debris from drainage areas.

Navy personnel and families are being asked to review hurricane checklists and plans in case of an evacuation.
