High School games being moved around, canceled due to Matthew

(WAVY) — With Hurricane Matthew moving up the east coast, Virginia Beach administrators have decided to play all of its football games on Thursday night. All games will begin at 7 p.m. with the exception of First Colonial’s home game against Bayside which will kickoff at 7:30.

The Oscar Smith-Indian River game, originally scheduled for Saturday, will be played Friday at 7 p.m. at Hickory High School. In the Bay Rivers District, the Tabb-Smithfield game will be played Thursday at 7 p.m. at Smithfield High School.

Games to be played on Thursday:

  • Bayside at First Colonial 7:30
  • Cox at Salem 7:00 Kellam at Ocean Lakes 7:00
  • Tallwood at Princess Anne 7:00
  • Green Run at Kempsville 7:00
  • Tabb at Smithfield 7:00
  • Lakeland at King’s Fork

JV Field Hockey and Varsity Field Hockey, which were scheduled for October 6 have been postponed. The new date is October 19. Varsity will be at Oscar Smith; JV will be at Home. Varsity Field Hockey will finish a previous game that ended in a tie; the make-up date is October 14 at Deep Creek at 5 p.m.. The teams will play a 15 minute overtime.

Currituck County High School announced its homecoming game against Edenton scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. has been canceled. Homecoming will instead be held on October 28, where the Knights will play First Flight.

The dance is postponed until a later, undetermined date.
