NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a deadly shooting on Hale Street that happened September 25.

After 10 On Your Side began inquiring, late Monday afternoon police announced Daniel Carrington, 22, and Deonte Green, 23, were arrested without incident on September 26 and 27, respectively.

According to a news release, around 5:20 a.m. on September 25, police responded to the 2500 block of Hale Street for a possible gunshot victim. When police arrived, they located a 27-year-old man lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics transported the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he died hours later.

The man has been identified as Darrell L. Beck Jr. of the 2500 block of Middle Avenue.

During an exclusive interview with 10 On Your Side, Beck’s mother Patricia Beck says, “He had a very promising life ahead of him.”

Beck says her son was killed two blocks from his home. He was a father of two and most recently worked at a hotel in Virginia Beach.

“His presence, his positive presence is what I will miss the most,” the grieving mother says. “He was a pleasant child and he wanted to help everyone.”

His desire to help is why Beck says her son went outside on September 25. According to Beck, around 2 a. m. that day she, her son, his girlfriend and her mother were in her living room, heard gunshots and ducked for cover.

A short time later Beck’s girlfriend and her mother left the house. Out of concern for their safety, Beck went outside as well.

“He left out to check on her and that was the last time I heard anything from my son,” Beck says.

Hours later she says police knocked on the door telling her, her baby boy had died at the hospital. This past Saturday night, family members gathered for a vigil in the area where police said Beck was shot.

“He was loved and he will be greatly missed,” Beck says of her son.

The news release details how the suspects were captured. Police say Carrington was arrested a day after the shooting with the help of US Marshals. Meanwhile Green was arrested two days after the shooting by the Norfolk Police Fugitive Squad.

Both men are being held at the Norfolk City Jail on no bond. Both are charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

During their interview, Beck says she has forgiveness for the men accused in the crime.

“I forgive you,” she says. “Let vengeance be mine saith the Lord. Whatever the Lord has for you, it will be. Justice will be served.”

Police said no other information is available for release at this time.
