One injured in house fire on Watkins Drive in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) –  Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 200 block of Watkins Drive, Sunday evening.

According to Hampton Fire-Rescue, the emergency call came in around 11:23 p.m. When crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the home. They initially tried to attack the fire from inside the home. Due to the deteriorating condition of the home, everyone was ordered out. The fire was brought under control from outside of the home in about 45 minutes.

The people home at the time were able to make it out after being alerted by the fire alarm, according to fire officials.

One person was injured with minor burns to his hands. No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.

An investigation found that the fire was accidental, caused by a malfunctioning electrical panel.

The two people who live at the home were displaced due to heavy fire, smoke and water damage. They did not require assistance from the Red Cross.
