Teenager killed in Chesapeake shooting

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Investigators are still working to identify suspects in a shooting early Saturday morning that left a 19-year-old man dead.

Erion Williams, 19, of Chesapeake died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, according to Chesapeake Police spokesperson Officer Leo Kosinski.

Officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 2000 block of Timber Lane around 4:00 a.m., and found Williams injured.

The family and friends of Williams are still working to accept their new reality.

“I just know that he’s gone and he ain’t coming back,” said Jacky Bell. She was one of about 40 people who gathered at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Saturday morning.

Hours earlier, she got news she wasn’t expecting.”I got a phone call at five in the morning and they told me he passed away,”said Bell.

Neighbors told 10 on your side that they heard at least one dozen gunshots. Officials say Williams died before he got to the hospital.

“We lost a friend and a family member.  And we’re a grieving family and grieving friends,” said Bell.

Bell grew up with Williams and says his death is shocking. But her memories of him are happy ones. “Sweetheart, you know.  Minding his business,” said Bell.

She says family and friends gathered at the hospital — looking for comfort and a place to share happy memories. But something happened and they couldn’t stay.

“We came here to meet up and grieve. Like family and normal friends and we were kicked out of the hospital,” Bell said.

A spokesperson from the hospital couldn’t tell 10 On Your Side why the family was asked to leave.
