Firefighters respond to apartment fire in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Firefighters responded to an apartment fire in the 100 block of North Main Street, Friday evening.

According to officials with the Suffolk Fire Department, the emergency call came in at 8:44 p.m. Units arrived to the scene and found the fire in a vacant apartment on the 6th floor.

The fire was under control at 9:04 p.m. with only minor damage to the apartment.

The building was evacuated during the incident. People were allowed to return after the fire was out.

No injuries were reported and no one was displaced.

Investigators say the fire was caused by carelessly discarded smoking material.
