Car catches fire at Chuckatuck home, damages detached garage

CHUCKATUCK, Va. (WAVY) — A car was destroyed and a detached garage was damaged early Friday in a fire at a Suffolk home.

Officials say were Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department crews were called to a car fire at a home on Shady Grove Lane in rural Chuckatuck  around 4:30 a.m.

The car was fully engulfed when the first crews arrived five minutes later.

The owner told officials he started the car, a 2007 BMW with 30-day tags, at 4 a.m. and shortly found that the car was on fire. Officials say the car was parked six feet away from a detached garage.

The fire caused minor damage to the garage’s vinyl siding. There were no injuries reported.

Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
