Women help support the HER shelter

CHESAPEAKE, Va (WAVY) — Smart women know how to take care of themselves. That was the message at a rather untraditional luncheon in Chesapeake Thursday.

Women from across Hampton Roads ditched their cell phones and did some yoga while supporting the HER Shelter for domestic violence victims.

The HER Shelters in Portsmouth and Chesapeake help more than 400 people a year.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Next week, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring will be in town to help announce a new regional hotline more than a year in the making.
