PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A woman has turned herself into police in connection with a fraudulent check case, Thursday morning.

Sherika L. Jones, 20, was caught on a surveillance video cashing a stolen check. Police say she came into the BB&T in the 3300 block of High Street on August 31. She then gave a check belonging to the Unity Outreach Ministries of America to the teller to be cashed. The teller then cashed the check valued at over $1,000.00 and gave the money to Jones.

According to police, Jones turned herself in after seeing her photo on the news.

Jones is being charged with obtaining money by false pretenses and say that additional charges are pending.
