HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Old Dominion University released a new report Thursday about transportation in Hampton Roads.
From 2012 to 2014, average commute times for those living in Hampton Roads stayed close to 24 minutes. They decreased to an average commute time of 20 minutes in 2015, and dropped even more to 18.1 minutes in 2016 — the lowest reported commute time of the survey.
34 percent of those questioned said that in the last month, they avoided visiting a business in a neighboring city because of tolls. Almost half said that they did not intentionally avoid the tolls.
The report also found that support for light rail expansion is up noticeably from 2014.
More than 900 Hampton Roads residents participated in the 2016 Life in Hampton Roads, which was conducted by ODU’s Social Science Research Center
