PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – High school reunions reconnect old friends and school mates. One group of men from Chesapeake made a pact at their 30th to give back. As they talked, each of them recognized how blessed they were with success and decided to help others in gratitude. What started small has turned into much more, it has become BLAM & GLAM, a non profit organization.
BLAM & GLAM stands for Boys Learning About Manhood and Girls Leading After Mentorship. They offer scholarships, host blood drives, sponsor field trips for underprivileged children and, most recently, sent desperately needed school supplies to six different schools. BLAM & GLAM members did all of the shopping.
They bought everything – pencils, pens, glue sticks, notebooks, binders, tissues, anti-bacterial wipes – the works! They loaded up plastic bins to be delivered to W.E. Waters Middle School, Camelot Elementary, Chesterfield Academy, St. Helena, Driver Elementary and G.A. Treakle Elementary.
Right now, the group raises funds by doing things like hosting car washes, having dances, selling doughnuts and donating from their personal accounts.
They are hoping to garner additional resources to provide more services and supplies.
