Portsmouth man killed in George Washington Highway shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man was shot and killed Sunday night in the 3200 block of George Washington Highway.

Dispatch says the emergency call came in at 10:07 p.m. about medical assistance needed in front of the 7-Eleven. Police say when officers arrived to the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim Monday afternoon as 37-year-old Adrian A. Smith, of Portsmouth.

Authorities were seeking a person of interest because she may have information about the shooting investigation. On Tuesday, police said she was identified. The person of interest is not a suspect.
