COLUMBUS (WCMH) — There’s a new tool on the market to help students get noticed during the college application process. It’s called ZeeMee.
“We started ZeeMee with the mission of empowering all students to bring their stories to life,” said Adam Metcalf, co-founder of ZeeMee. “So in education today, a paradigm exists in which we look at test scores, we look at transcripts and we feel like we’re sending the incorrect message to students that you’re not more than your test scores.”
To correct that, ZeeMee allows students to integrate photos and videos to tell a personal narrative and to be seen as more than a score in the application process.
“That’s the key… you learn more of a story of a student rather than just looking at a list or essay,” said Ross Grippi, Director of Admissions at Ohio Wesleyan University.
ZeeMee is available on iOS and Android devices and is also available as a web browser application. All students have to do is start a profile, and they have the ability to link videos and photos from various social media platforms to their account.
Not every college accepts ZeeMee videos, but with more than 200 partner colleges, the app is part of a growing trend.
“This generation is a Snapchat generation,” Metcalf said. “There’s over a billion photos and videos shared every single day on Snapschat and we just give them an opportunity to express themselves freely in the application process that resonates with them as a generation.”
