Elizabeth City man wanted in Philadelphia murder

Prosecutors believe Shelton got away with less than $20.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) – The U.S. Marshals are asking the public’s help finding a suspect from Elizabeth City in a Philadelphia murder-robbery.

According to officials, 38-year-old, Rodney Shelton, shot and killed 63-year-old Thomas Childs during an attempted robbery at a loading dock west of Philadelphia. Prosecutors believe Shelton got away with less than $20.

Authorities believe Shelton may have fled the area soon after the crime, but he could be hiding in plain sight.

Shelton is described as black, 5’9″, weighting around 170 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He also has numerous tattoos, including one on his head, neck and left hand. He may even be working as a tattoo artist, according to the Marshal’s office.

Shelton has personal ties in Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.

A reward of up to $1,500 is being offered for information leading directly to the fugitive’s arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest U.S. Marshals Service office.
