Customs officers find $85K in stolen vehicles, auto parts at Port of Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Port of Norfolk seized stolen vehicles and automobile parts on August 13 worth about $85,000.

The auto parts were headed to Jordan in an export shipping container that arrived from Chicago.

During a random export examination, CBP officers identified half-cut vehicles that were in very good condition and a variety of auto parts, including a 2015 Infinity engine and parts to a 2007 Cadillac Escalade.

CBP officers investigated and determined the parts were reported stolen in Illinois and Indiana. Officers identified additional suspect vehicles and auto parts with help from the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

In total, 11 partial vehicles were confirmed stolen and seized by CBP officers.

CBP officers are turning the seized auto parts over to the Virginia State Police.
