NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A car hit a gun store in Newport News early Tuesday morning.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 ran into Virginia Gun and Sports Supply on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard around 4:34 a.m. Police spokesman Lou Thurston says the driver was not at the scene when officers arrived.

Police said Tuesday afternoon that the incident is now being investigated as a burglary. However, it appears no guns or other property were taken, Thurston told 10 On Your Side.

Detectives have spoken to the owner of the business and the owner of the vehicle. No one has been arrested or charged in connection to the case.

Jennifer Wright of Weichert Realtors can see the damage from her store-front window. She says this is much more than just a crash, because it affects many people.

“It’s horrible, because his employees are obviously not working today, he’s distraught and not making any income, anybody that was wanting to buy a gun isn’t going to do it today,” said Wright. “It’s a mess. It’s just a mess.”

If you know anything about this incident, you’re asked to call the Newport News Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

10 On Your Side’s Laura Caso is working to gather more details on the investigation, and will have the latest updates on air and online.
