HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police are investigating after someone shot two people on Webster Street Sunday afternoon.
Dispatchers received multiple calls around 1:30 p.m. for shots fired in the area. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after, officers were told another male victim had arrived at Sentara Careplex. He is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries.
10 On Your Side spoke with neighbors who want the violence to stop.
One woman, Lisa Christopher, thought she was hearing a firecracker until she walked outside of her home and saw one of the victims. She said, “He was still laying on the ground, outside of his car.”
What she saw didn’t surprise her.
“It happens when it happens, you know,” said Christopher. “It could happen in the middle of the night. It could happen like it did today.” But it did upset her, adding to her family’s constant state of fear. And she’s not the only one who feels that way.
“My safety is on the line. I could be a victim just going, getting a drink,” said Abdalla Daud, who moved into the neighborhood a few months ago.
He and one of his fellow classmates say they’ve never seen anything like this. “Yellow tape right next door. That’s something to keep in mind. It’s very uncomfortable,” said Daud.
“I didn’t expect to see something like this, so I’m just kind of shocked at the moment,” said Diana Ajebon.
They’re all hoping they don’t have to see it again.
The motive in this shooting remains under investigation. There is no suspect information from police at this time.
