Creature Feature – Greyhound Adoption

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – When most people think of Greyhounds, they think of racing. However, if the dogs don’t run well or retire, they need loving, adoptive homes.

Old Dominion Greyhound Adoption is a Virginia Beach based organization that finds former racers forever homes. Cassie McQuagge and Gay Lattimer have been matching these dogs with families in Hampton Roads for many years.

A number of their dogs come off of tracks in Florida and go to a women’s prison program. The inmates train and socialize the dogs to prepare them for the rest of their lives. Not to mention, the recidivism rate at the prison has dropped among the women who work with the Greyhounds.
