Suspect in shooting outside Williamsburg restaurant turns himself in

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A suspect in an August shooting outside the Crust Restaurant in Williamsburg turned himself in Wednesday.

22-year-old John Lee Johnson, of Newport News, was wanted for maiming, reckless discharge of a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling and brandishing.

On August 27, officers responded to the restaurant in the 200 block of Richmond Road after they got a call about a shooting around 12:45 a.m. Witnesses told investigators that a man fired shots during an altercation between two groups leaving the restaurant.

One person suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

Johnson was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
