JCC Police warn residents of scammer claiming to be officer

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – Residents of James City County are telling police they are receiving calls from a scammer who claims to be an officer with the James City County Police Department or the Williamsburg-James City County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say the scammer is telling residents that there is a warrant for their arrest and says if they do not send funds by a pre-paid card immediately, they will be arrested.

James City County Police say that officers will never call you on the phone and request payment in lieu of an arrest.

If you have fallen victim to this scam or have any questions, call James City County Police  at 757-253-1800.
