NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A father in Norfolk has been issued a summons for child neglect after his 3-year-old son was found wandering Thursday morning.

Police say they received a call at 8:10 a.m. from someone claiming they found a 3-year-old in the 600 block of Connecticut Avenue, in the Colonial Place neighborhood. While they were investigating, police received another call from the 500 block of New York Avenue, about a missing 3-year-old.

Officers determined that the found child was the same as the child reported missing. Police say the child was OK and not injured.

The boy’s father, 22-year-old Dustin Gilliam, who lives at the New York Avenue address, was issued a summons for misdemeanor child neglect. He told police he woke up and discovered his child was not there.

Police say the boy was outside chasing his dog, and was a block away from his home.
