Portsmouth man receives life sentence in murder of Donta Williams

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man who plead guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Donta Williams received a sentenced of life plus 10 years.

Prosecutors say Kyle Purvis was sentenced on Wednesday.

A jury on Aug. 31 recommended two life terms plus 15 years Nathaniel McCoy, Jr., one of the other two defendants in this case.

The third defendant in this case, Tremayne Johnson, entered an Alford plea of guilt for second-degree murder. Johnson is due in court on Dec. 1.
