Suspect in fatal Warwick Blvd. shooting taken into custody

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say the suspect in a double shooting Monday that left a Newport News man dead was taken into custody Thursday morning.

19-year-old Elijah Divine Bullin, of the 300 block of Hickory Avenue, was wanted for first-degree murder, malicious assault and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Police took out arrest warrants for Bullin on Tuesday.

Bullin was arrested without incident at 11:31 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Hickory Avenue.

At 4:52 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the 15000 block of Warwick Boulevard, near Thorncliff Drive, for a reported shooting. Police arrived on scene to find two men shot.

19-year-old Robert Wayles Watkins IV was killed. An 18-year-old Newport News man was also injured. He is expected to be OK.

A 40-year-old woman at an Allstate Insurance office across the street was also hurt when a stray bullet flew through a window. The woman was hurt by the shattered glass and was treated at the scene.

Police identified a suspect vehicle — a silver 2009 Chevy Cobalt with a license plate of VHE-5819 that had previously been reported stolen. The suspect vehicle was later found, but no one was inside.
