Franklin police arrest suspect in attack that seriously injured 71-year-old man

FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — Franklin police arrested and charged a Portsmouth man for allegedly attacking a man in August.

Police say on August 27, a 71-year-old Blacksburg man visiting Franklin was vacuuming his car at the New Dixie Mart Exxon on Armory Drive when someone approached him from behind and hit him with an object.

The victim was injured in the face. He was taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital and was eventually transferred to VCU Medical Center because of the severity of his injuries.

18-year-old Malik Hassan Asbury was arrested by Portsmouth police on Monday. He’s charged with malicious wounding and unauthorized use of an automobile.

Asbury is being held without bond.
