SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 3-year-old boy was killed in a two-car crash Sunday afternoon on U.S. Route 58 in Suffolk.
Police say five other people were injured in the crash, which blocked travel lanes near Wilroy Road for several hours. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have determined that a Toyota passenger vehicle traveling east on Route 58 lost control, went over the median and collided with a Mazda minivan that was traveling west on 58.
All of the occupants in the two cars were treated at the scene by fire and rescue personnel.
The four passengers of the minivan were taken to Sentara Obici Hospital and released Sunday evening. Police say the mother of the child killed in the accident was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The westbound side of Route 58 was shutdown at the Wilroy Road exit, and one eastbound lane was blocked, for several hours Sunday. All travel lanes on Route 58 reopened around 8 p.m.
