Native Americans raise their flag over Springfield city hall

This year's salute helps support tribal struggles thousands of miles away

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Native Americans from western Massachusetts raised their flag over Springfield city hall Saturday. Springfield state representative Springfield Mayor Sarno hosted the flag raising at the steps of city hall.

This year’s salute to western Massachusetts Native Americans helps support tribal struggles thousands of miles away.

Tasondra Jardine of the Western Massachusetts Native American International Council told 22News, “It’s especially powerful for us, because of what’s going on in the Dakota’s with the pipelines. We just want to show our solidarity and support, actually our 13th in the city of Springfield.

Jardine said Saturday’s flag raising at Springfield city hall was an expression honoring all indigenous people everywhere.
