Man charged with DWI in crash that killed ODU student

Paul James Fraki

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a man is facing charges in connection to a crash that killed an Old Dominion University student.

Officer Daniel Hudson with Norfolk Police says Paul James Fraki was driving down West Little Creek Road when the accident happened on August 12. Fraki has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

ODU student Jordan Zimmerman was killed in the crash. Zimmerman was “an outstanding student leader,” a spokesperson for ODU said. He was a member of the university’s Student Government Association.

ODU President John R. Broderick said a few words about Jordan in a letter sent to campus Monday:

“Jordan Zimmerman was equally full of energy and no doubt would have become a key contributor to society had a traffic accident not taken his life. Jordan was a well-known and respected student leader, and his life was celebrated in Richmond by more than 100 students and staff from ODU. He was a delightful person to be around.”

Family, friends and fellow students gathered in Richmond recently to hold a memorial to remember Zimmerman. A vigil to remember Jordan was scheduled to be held Sept. 4, but has been postponed to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at Kaufman Mall, located at 4821 49th Street in Norfolk.
