West Ocean View apartment fire displaces 1

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Firefighters responded to an apartment fire in the 200 block of West Ocean View, Thursday afternoon.

According to Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire-Rescue, a man at the apartment at the time noticed a fire in the kitchen and evacuated the apartment. He then called 911 and alerted others living in the apartment building.

Firefighters arrived on the scene around 3:28 p.m., and saw smoke coming from the apartment building. They found the fire inside the kitchen of the first floor apartment. The fire was ruled out at 3:40 p.m. Firefighters then checked for fire extension to the surrounding apartments.

The fire was contained to the area of origin, and no other damage was done to surrounding apartments, Williamson says.

No injuries were reported.

One person is displaced due to smoke damage to the apartment with the fire has ruled it uninhabitable. He has asked the Red Cross for assistance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
