Thieves steal thousands in golf carts

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — Golf cart thieves hit a Williamsburg business in the middle of the night. Now, the owner is out thousands of dollars after someone made off with several golf carts, or as they call them, “golf cars.”

Thursday morning, Kevin King came to work at his golf car dealership, but something was missing.

“As soon as I pulled in the outside lot, I saw the cars were missing,” King said.

Five golf cars and an ATV were stolen in the middle of the night.

“Total loss is going to be somewhere in the area of $30,000,” he said.

King said they lock this fence each night. So how did the thieves get in? He didn’t see, until he walked behind his building.

“When I turned around I got a glimpse of the gate wide open and that’s when I really knew we were in trouble,” he said.

You could still see a broken chain lock on the fence Friday and the faint tire tracks of the lost golf cars: the only clues left behind. So King called 10 On Your Side.

“10 On Your Side, I feel truly wants to help people that need it,” he said. “This theft, it hurts and it hurts a lot of people.”

It’s a theft that will set back this small business. It’s left King feeling helpless.

“We hope for the best,” King said. “We have obviously contacted York County Sheriff’s office we’ve contacted our insurance.”
