Virginia Beach, Va. (WAVY) – It has been an especially busy summer for the Stranding Response Program. Team members and volunteers show up on a moment’s notice to save marine life and sea turtles all along our coastline. A relatively new endeavor, called the Pier Partner Program, is the reason behind the increase in responses, admissions and releases this season. Seven local piers are involved so far. Loggerhead Turtles and Kemp’s Ridley Turtles are two of the most seen by the Stranding Team. The Kemp’s Ridley is critically endangered and programs like these help to sustain their population.
