Man seriously hurt in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man was shot at 36th Street and Madison Avenue Thursday night.

According to police, an officer was in the area of 35th Street and Madison Avenue when he heard a number of gunshots coming from 36th Street and Madison. The officer saw people running from the area and immediately responded. He then found the 23-year-old victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, police said.

Authorities have not released any suspect information. An investigation is ongoing.

This shooting happened near where a 16-year-old boy was shot last Monday. A little over an hour later that same night, a 10-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were shot a block away.
