Currituck Sheriff’s Office warns public of multiple phone scams

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – The sheriff’s office is warning residents about phone scams that are going around the area.

Deputies say one scam is someone calls claiming to be a family member or some on behalf of a family member. They then state they have been arrested and need bond money. They say they will accept the money in many different ways.

Contact the family member or the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office for assistance if receive a call regrading this scam.

The other scam is someone claiming to represent Dominion Power. They then state that if you do not pay a certain amount that your power will be disconnected. They may have a lot of your personal information. The scammer will even provide you with a 1-800 number that is answered by someone claiming to work for Dominion Power, and that your power will be disconnected if payment is not received.
